Lesson Planning is Like Party Planning

Some thoughts after reading Teach Like a Pirate by Dave Burgess.

To have a fabulous lesson, a teacher needs to think about everything and every minute of it. Where can I place hooks to keep the students’ attention? How many types of hooks do I want to use? How can I entertain my “guests” better?

Learning can start before the class begins. So, use the board to get some sort of message across. Make them wonder, make them talk and make them shoot questions.

Like an outrageously fun party, a class full of surprises can be remembered and talked about for years.

In a sense, a good teacher is also a good party planner.
